We believe in the power of family and a portrait on the wall is a statement of love. Studies have shown that children who grew up with a portrait in their home will be more confident and successful—we know this is because as they see that portrait every day, they are constantly assured that they belong and are loved!
So many families come through our studio with incredible history, memories & experiences, and being able to capture a part of this in a legacy art piece has become our passion, and it is the reason families keep coming back to us. No one knows what tomorrow will bring, which is why the art we're creating for this project is so beautiful and important...

If you are looking for a high-quality family portrait, J. Oates is the place to go. Picking out the right outfit for your little ones and keeping their clothes on and hair in place is a challenge, but the photographer made the shoot creative and fun. She entertained the girls and made them smile. The photos, like with any shoot, varied in expressions, but the Art Director's (Jerry's) editing abilities are phenomenal. My best advice is to go early and take a few minutes to slow down and make the family atmosphere fun before you go in. Jennifer will likely greet you and help you make any final touches before she takes the photographs. She even helped me fix the curls in my hair! If a high-quality family portrait is affordable, J. Why are you doing this contest?
J. Oates has been creating heirloom wall portraits for Treasure Valley families for almost 20 years. We believe in the power of family and love to celebrate their love and commitment with fine art portraits.
How many people win?
We've had thousands of entrants but only a small percentage of entrants win. We have many winners each month and your neighbor or family member could also be a winner.
What’s included in my prize?
Our grand prize winners receive a fine art experience at the studio and 14" wall portrait with full artistry ($1,000 value) and our runner ups receive a a fine art experience at the studio and 10" wall portrait with full artistry ($550 value).
Is there any additional cost to me?
No! Most people that go through this special experience do find they fall in love with our work and wish to purchase more; however you are not obligated to do so. If you do decide you'd like to invest in our work, we can apply your reservation deposit or the value of your gift toward your artwork order.
What if my children are in school and our work schedules conflict with your appointment times?
We do have some weekend appointments available however they do book very quickly and we like to reserve our weekends so that our team can spend time with their families. Family is the most important thing to us, your family and ours. Most of our clients typically take at least a half day off and their children out of school because this is such a special experience. They spend quality time together getting ready and having fun with each other, then have a family meal or special treat after they leave the studio. Making a family day of the experience brings back beautiful memories as the years go by every time you look at your portrait.
I entered for someone else. Can I give the prize to them?
Prizes are non-transferable. If you think someone else would like to win this experience, please be sure to tell them about the contest so they can enter our contest :)
Do you have a pricelist? How much are additional portraits? Can I just buy digital files?
All of our portrait collections are are custom so we price everything during your viewing and selection appointment as you choose your sizes, finishes, and framing options. We offer a range of portraits from large scale exquisite hand painted portraits to more modest sizes in photographic finishes beginning at $500. Our artwork is definitely an investment and many families spend $1000 on up. Our portraits are finished like fine art and therefore priced like fine art. This is certainly not within the reach of every budget, yet there is never any obligation to purchase and we do offer easy payment plans to help clients be able to get what they love most. We specialize in heirloom portrait that last a lifetime! When you see the beauty of these pieces, you will understand why we do not offer digitals, but will give them as gifts with a wall portrait purchase.
We are expecting or just had a new addition to our family! When should we do this?
We're excited for you and are looking forward to meeting your new family member! We photograph children as young as 6 months old, we do however ask that they be able to hold their heads up so we can capture their sweet expression as part of your family portrait. In our experience, the ideal time for a family portrait experience is when the children are between the ages of 3-18!
