Clothing Choices For Your Special Portrait
We are looking forward to creating a portrait like no other for your family. Our soft, contoured lighting, elegant posing, and YOUR beautifully dressed loved ones will result in an exquisite piece of portrait art.
Pick a color palette for your family—2 or 3 colors that look great together and work with the colors you decorate your home with so your portrait looks fantastic on your wall!
This is a time to go all out! Formal wear is not only appropriate, but a highly recommended for the most important heirloom portrait you will possess!
In general, we suggest dark clothing to keep the focus on the face and eyes. In our experience, the following works best:
Men - Dark Jackets (tuxedo or suit), white shirt, tie, and dark pants.
Ladies - Dark (black, navy, burgundy, dark green, jewel tones, etc.) dress or gown. Little or no pattern is preferable. Classic Jewelry such as diamonds, pearls, etc. are encouraged.
Young Girls - Dark or jewel toned solid dresses are great choices, but ivory, cream, pink, light blue or off-white are also beautiful if they accent the color palette you’ve chosen.
Young Boys - Clothing choices are similar to the men’s suggestions and bow ties and suspenders add character, especially for the small ones!
If you are envisioning a more relaxed or casual portrait for your family, here are some guidelines: You should still be in something dark and solid, not busy, and in a style that will look acceptable 20 years from now. Avoid athletic shoes—even though shoes don’t normally show in a portrait, nicer shoes will help you “feel” complete! Dresses in more casual styles are not essential, but will ensure the ladies feel beautiful! Keep it classic—you will be enjoying this special portrait on your wall for many years! Your faces and eyes should draw the attention in the portrait, not your clothing.
